A to Z GUIDES

Over the last 50 years, I have published many books about art, but they have always been conventional print editions. This is my first venture into self-publishing and e-book publishing.

My principal hope is that the guides will be found helpful in an art museum or gallery when looking at a work of art and think you might need some gentle guidance as to what to look for.

If you download the book to you smartphone it means that it will always be available for reference wherever you are. You will first need to instal Amazon’s Kindle app in order to access the book. The app download is free, without charge. It is the platform that was available and easiest for me to use when I was working on and designing the books. The same app can also be installed for free onto a desk top computer.

The eBook benefits from many hyperlinks to top quality illustrations.

My plan over time is to issue Professor Cumming’s Art Guides as a series with new volumes on the Modern Masters (Picasso to Warhol) and Contemporary Stars (Living artists who are currently in fashion).

This is my personal selection of the top 101 pioneers – geniuses – who set the standard for generations to come or changed the course of the history of art. They are like a bright Sun around which other planets revolve. I offer guidance on what made each artist tick and the main features to look out for with each artist. I also reveal my favourite work by each artist and say why I am excited by it.

Most figurative art is concerned with storytelling and may carry many coded messages and symbolic meanings. This book contains in alphabetical order a quick reminder of the story being told, with explanations as to who is who and what is what, and what people and objects may mean.
